Daniel “Dan” Aaron Heil

Daniel “Dan” Aaron Heil, 39, of Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 18, 2023. Dan was born to Mark and Karen (Byrd) Heil on September 23, 1983, at Timken Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. Dan grew up with his little brother Tyler in Canton and eventually Twinsburg, Ohio. Dan attended Twinsburg High School, where he formed several lifelong friendships.

Dan lived in cities from New York to Los Angeles, California. More than anything, he enjoyed traveling and adventuring. He often traveled to and loved Mexico City. Dan’s favorite place in the world was Joshua Tree National Park. He made sure to take his visitors there to experience the same awe and wonder that Joshua Tree inspired in him.

Dan was a devoted, kind, and caring friend, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and grandson. The only thing that made Dan happier than going to Joshua Tree was reading to his little niece and nephew. Throughout his life, Dan loved telling stories to his friends. All of his closest friends felt that Dan could have written a best-selling novel with all the experiences he had throughout his life. He had too many hobbies and things he enjoyed to name, but among them were lifting heavy things, traveling, bicycling, and attending concerts of all genres, in particular, outlaw country. Dan was also a proud fur father of his little dog Chiva, who will remain in his family with his brother, Tyler, and his family.

Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Joanna Byrd, as well as Louis and Virginia Heil. He is survived by his loving mother and father, Karen and Mark; brother, Tyler; sister-in-law, Chelsey; nephew, Gavin; Niece, Joanna; and many beloved Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and dear friends.

An official memorial service has not yet been planned. However, Dan will have his ashes spread at his favorite place in the world, Joshua Tree National Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the San Fernando Valley Alcoholics Anonymous Central Office (SFVAA).
