Solace Introduces Innovative Death Care Model to Northeast Florida

By combining digital ease with personalized care, Solace is leading change in the funeral industry

June 15, 2022 (Jacksonville, Fla.) – Solace Cremation, the direct cremation company that melds digital convenience with a caring, human-centered approach, has brought its innovative direct-to-consumer model to Florida with its recent expansion to the Jacksonville area. Solace is now serving Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties. This marks the company’s first east coast service area.

Florida’s current cremation rate is over 70%, per the National Funeral Directors Association—one of the highest in the nation—and, like in the rest of the United States, it’s a preference that continues to gain popularity. With Solace’s online-only offering, those needing cremation services in the Jacksonville area can now access them in a way that is modern, simple and transparent.

“We are proud to be opening our next office in Jacksonville. When families are grieving, the last thing they want to do is spend hours at a funeral home making arrangements.  With Solace, families can access our services from wherever they are, whenever they need us, either through our website or by calling our local care team,” said Jeremy Frank, Solace’s chief operating officer and a Jacksonville resident. “Cremation is already the preferred method of disposition in Florida, and Solace meets that consumer need while elevating the service through our service-centric model.”

Leading the new Jacksonville team as its funeral director is Sarah Lee, a Jacksonville native.

“As someone who has spent most of my life in Jacksonville, I care deeply about this community, and I’m excited that there is a new choice that is personal, easy and affordable for families in need of cremation,” said Lee. “We know how overwhelming end-of-life planning can be, especially during a time of grief, and Solace is centered around delivering compassionate, personal and concierge-level service as conveniently as possible. I am honored to work with Jacksonville-area families through Solace.”

Solace was founded in Portland, Ore., in 2019 by Keith Crawford and David Odusanya, two former Nike executive creative directors whose experiences with the death of loved ones inspired them to reimagine the analog funeral business model that has been relatively unchanged over the last century.

Solace customers pay one all-inclusive fee of $895—compared to $2,500, the national median cost of direct cremation—and there are no add-on fees or surprise expenses. The fee includes 24/7 personalized customer service; funeral director and staff; assistance with paperwork; transportation of the deceased; cremation; return of cremated remains in-person or via USPS priority mail; and all necessary permits and fees.
