Dementia may have ended her life, but it didn’t define her. She was still my mother, who suffered from a serious disease at the very end of her long, fruitful life.
I left for college in the Fall of 2017, never mentioning to my new friends that my mom had died. I thought that if I could keep it concealed, my life could continue on.
